20 clubs receive BBL license - wildcard
"17 clubs receive the license without a requirement or a resolving condition-a new record. This result is remarkable against the background of the Corona pandemic and the resulting missing ticket revenue," said Thomas Braumann, chairman of the BBL license league.
According to the current status, 17 teams take part in the 2022/23 season. The clubs will decide promptly whether there will be a wildcard process for an 18th place. It was only last year that the Jobstairs Giessen remained 46ers after the sporting descent thanks to a wildcard in the upper house. The Middle Hesse and Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt are the relegations this season.
Medipolis SC Jena and the Rostock Seaawolves were the only one of the possible sporting promoters from the 2nd league (ProA). Since only one of these two teams can achieve the play-off final and thus the BBL qualification, the allocation of a wildcard is not unlikely.
